Did we miss a trick with Mitrovic?
We were quite strongly linked with him in the summer and when discussed on here the majority verdict was he is average and we need to be looking for better. Now I know hindsight is a wonderful thing, but he almost certainly would have been better than the hapless Haller, and somewhat cheaper. As you were.

Re: Did we miss a trick with Mitrovic?
Not even 'very good' in the championship. more like 'Good/reasonable' ... really doesn't stick out in the games i've seen this season. altho, yes, he has scored goals. problem for Premier League is he's very slow which is why i guess no ones been in for him in last 2/3 years

Re: Did we miss a trick with Mitrovic?
Not really,

All he is showing is that he is very good in the Championship, crap in the Prem, another David Nugent.

Re: Did we miss a trick with Mitrovic?
Any striker aside from maybe a Vardy clone would struggle with the way we are setting up and playing. Completely feasting on scraps.

It doesn’t suit Haller at all and while he’s not been good, we are 100% not playing to his strengths. He was looking good early in the season when the team was actually alive as an attacking force.

Been to Fulham 4/5 times this season (unfortunately). He is mediocre player and very slow. No, not a good premier league player - not even that good in the Championship

Re: Did we miss a trick with Mitrovic?
It’s clear Haller is the mardy type and he clearly isn’t putting the effort in. what is even clearer is that he needs a partner and he needs crosses, none of which he has. His career shows he will score given those two things, so why he has been played alone I have no idea. It drags down his confidence, he gets more arsey and then not scoring becomes an issue and he starts to miss given chances. The doesn’t play. The vicious circle continues.
Look at Sheff Utd, fast and quick passes to the penalty box then crosses whenever possible. And they’re not one dimensional, but they get a good number of crosses in we hardly get any. It’s like expecting to score without shooting. That’s precisely why we score more and create more with Antonio, he shoots, he runs at people and he gives Haller options and help up top.

Lucky escape for Mitrovic?
We've ruined Haller instead.

We could have got him and Watkins instead of the wheelie bin Haller.

Re: Did we miss a trick with Mitrovic?
I like Mitrovic - he's turning into a good striker after a slow start in English football.

Muscular bloke and defenders don't like dealing with him, but he has good technique, too. His finishing has improved a lot at Fulham - Newcastle are a bit like us and manage to waste a lot of talent.

I'd have taken him above Haller any day of the week last summer, because he is more of a spearhead for an attack and other players play off him. But as somebody pointed out further down the thread, he committed to Fulham quite early last summer so he was not an option then.

We were, however, offered him repeatedly before Newcastle signed him from Anderlecht. His agent and Anderlecht touted him around London's clubs - he really wanted to play in the capital and, lo and behold, he's thriving here now.

He strikes me as somebody who works harder when there is expectation on him - in stark contrast to Haller, whose price tag is weighing him down. I think it's the Serb mentality. Like them or loathe them, they are a tough-minded bunch.

Good striker, but we've probably missed the boat.

That’s was a lovely finish last night.

Always struck me as a bit of a bully, exactly what we’re missing. We could do worse than their manager too.

Extremely dull people still rolling out the Messi cliche. Dull cunt.

No. The way we play we could have Messi and make him look shit. Mitrovic is no loss.

Ive found on here that if the overwhelming opinion of a player is that a player ‘isn’t good enough’ then they are more than good enough!

I’m sure that most of the Brighton side wouldn’t be good enough Glenn Murray included! He showed our £45m striker how to play the game the other week!

Re: Did we miss a trick with Mitrovic?
He only scored 11 last season and 3 were penalties.

Couldn’t see him replacing Noble as penalty taker with his record.

Re: Did we miss a trick with Mitrovic?
He would have been more of a cult hero here than Haller. Fans would have appreciated the work rate and 'PASHUN.'

Probably a safer bet in the sense that he had experience playing in the Premier League also. Whilst I don't think he would necessarily have been prolific, I reckon he'd have scored more than Haller.

Re: Did we miss a trick with Mitrovic?
Not sure why anyone would think a striker that couldn’t keep Fulham up last season would somehow have make all the difference here?

Rated at 40m plus too. No thanks.

Re: Did we miss a trick with Mitrovic?
I'm not giving anyone a pass, and you can talk about whatever you want but as antonio found out monday night, it's a hopeless/thankless task playing up front in this team. I think you can get away with one up top if you have two attacking midfielders/wingers out wide, but this cunt's obsession with five at the back will take us down, especially when every one of of our fullbacks have limited ability. with a more positive manager, yes mitrovic would possibly be a better option and you wouldn't get all the french clique bollocks shown by haller, but the problem remains that the team lacks a leader in the pitch and the squad is full of lazy midfield players who don't fit any system
